Photo updates

October 31, 2010

New pictures! Exciting!

Pictures from Claire Gallant’s show and Elizabeth Von Rosenbach’s show are now up on the Photobucket site! Pictures from Andrea Thiessen’s show are going up shortly, and hopefully a video of Claire’s performance will be included in the next few days. Just need to get my hands on a digital copty!

Speaking of photos and video, if you have not yet done so, come down to START and check out Rena Thomas’ photo/film installation “Transformations”!

Two more shows for this season, and then the semester is over! Alread!

Also, keep an ear out for a call for submissions. I will be releasing a call for submissions for the START Gallery some time in the next two weeks. Apply to have a show here next semester!

Also, my apologizes on the irregular timing of posts. I will try to be more timely! But for now: enjoy the photos. And Rena’s show.

START Gallery! 7 Lorne Street, open 9-5 weekdays/12-5 weekends.

October 13, gonna be a pretty big deal

October 11, 2010

Two exciting things happening on October 13! That is this Wednesday, for those calendar-challenged folks. Not unlike myself.

First! Elizabeth von Rosenbach is having her Opening Reception at START! 5PM, 7 Lorne Street – be there.

Then, after that, the SAM – short for Sackville Arts Magazine – is having its first community fundraiser! After dropping by Elizabeth’s show, come up to 81 York Street for a Fundraiser Potluck. Donations at the door, pay-what-you-can, with a suggested donation amount of $5. We promise not to serve turkey, as I’m sure we will all be overly stuffed with fowl by that time (Thanksgiving dinner + leftovers = turkey overload). Anyways, it’s kind of a big deal, so be sure to come by! There will be plenty of delicious food and fun times for all. When is 81 York Street anything else?

See you there!

First START Reception of the term!

September 21, 2010

Hi everyone!

The START Gallery is back and ready for the Fall 2010 Semester! The first show of the season, installed by Claire Gallant, is currently up at the gallery. Claire’s performance and reception will be on Wednesday, September 22, and 9PM. The press release can be found below; make sure to come down and check it out!

Claire Gallant’s Press Release:

Hello everyone,

An announcement for all with an inkling for something interesting.

This Wednesday (September 22), at START Gallery, Claire Gallant will be doing a performance amidst a painted installation. Conveniently timed after Dan Steeves’ “crossing a threshold” at the Owens Art Gallery, the short performance, named “Staccato (II)”, will begin at 9:00PM. The first representation of “Staccato” was in August 2010 at the Ok.Quoi?! Arts Festival.

There will be a casual brief discussion after the performance if attendees are interested.

START Gallery is a student-run gallery located at 7 Lorne Street, in the same building as Struts Gallery and Faucet Media Arts Centre.

Check back in a couple of days for an announcement about the next show by Andrea Thiessen, to be installed starting this Saturday, September 25!

Update

February 3, 2010

Thanks everybody who donated to and/or came out to the WUSC auction last Saturday night! It was a huge success, with close to $600 raised to be donated to the Haiti Relief movement.

Corey Isenor is having his show opening this Friday, February 5, at 7PM.

Preparations are being put together for START March Madness! The concert will feature Landon Braverman, Static Era, and FiveStoryFire – bringing back two good bands from the last concert, and adding in a wonderful singer/songwriter from Mount Allison University. It will be held on March 13, so make sure to check it out!!!

New Year Plans – WUSC Art Sale and March Madness

January 19, 2010

Hi everyone, and happy New Year! A few things to announce as a result of this period of absence. Firstly, the new START logo was decided! Thank you to everyone who came out to the concert and voted; it was a great night. Look for it on all upcoming START posters and advertisements!

Secondly, the Winter season has started! LeeAndra Cianci’s show is currently up, and Callan Field’s photography show starts next weekend. Reception dates will be announced as soon as we know them!

Thirdly, WUSC is holding its annual art auction, with profits to go towards Haitian Relief due to the recent earthquake. Donations are needed, so drop them off at the gallery! The auction (with live music and snacks!) will take place on Saturday, January 31. Look for posters coming soon!

Lastly, I have started planning START March Madness, a fundraising event during the month of March to raise money for the March of Dimes Foundation. Events will include a concert night, so email start@mta.ca if you are interested in playing!

So don’t forget about the WUSC Art Auction and I will see you all soon!!

New Pictures up on Photobucket

October 8, 2009

Photographs documenting Kristen Atkin’s show are now up on the START Photobucket website (see link to left). Sorry that the order is off and that some of them are on their sides, I am still trying to work out the kinks of Photobucket.

Archives are coming up soon, though, in addition to the Archive Website!
